Where students get stuck
Precalculus and Calculus move fast, and each unit builds on the last. A small gap in Algebra or functions can turn into a falling grade within a few weeks. I help students fill those gaps and keep up with their class.
- Precalculus and AP Precalculus: functions and their graphs, transformations, polynomial and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometry and the unit circle.
- Calculus and AP Calculus: limits, derivatives and the rules for finding them, related rates and optimization, integrals, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.
- College Calculus: Calculus I, II and III (multivariable).
How I teach it
I’m Tim Rusli, a Math and Physics tutor with a Bachelor’s in Applied Mathematics from Rutgers University. I focus on why each rule works, not just which formula to use, so students can handle problems they haven’t seen before. I explain each idea in more than one way until it clicks, and I use my own memory tools for things like the unit circle and derivative rules.
When a student is stuck on Calculus, the real problem is often an Algebra or Precalculus skill underneath it. I find and fix those gaps along the way. For AP students, we also practice exam-style questions, including free-response, and work on showing clear, complete reasoning.
What parents say
“My son struggled with his AP Pre Calculus class until he started working with Timothy. My son passed the year with an A. I would highly recommend Rusli Prep for help with any Math class or SAT review. Very professional, accommodating and kind.”
Donna N., parent (via Google)
“Tim responded immediately to my request and made himself available for the next two days to tutor my son for his pre-calculus final. He is extremely professional and my son enjoyed working with him. My son received an A on his final exam.”
Desrie, parent (via Wyzant)
“My son took pre calc last year and his grades improved. He is taking AP physics and AP calc this year and he is happy with the explanations and the attention. Both physics and calculus are difficult subjects for children and Timothy is well versed with the material and what is required for exam taking.”

Questions
My child did well in Algebra. Why is Precalculus so much harder?
Precalculus moves faster and expects students to combine many Algebra skills at once, often with new ideas like trigonometry and logarithms. It’s a very common place for good students to hit a wall, and it usually gets better quickly with the right help.
When should we start getting help?
As soon as grades start slipping, since each unit builds on the last. For AP exams in May, starting review in early spring gives plenty of time without cramming.
Can you help with a final exam or a single test?
Yes. I’m happy to do focused sessions before a big test or final, as well as weekly support through the year.
